Degree and Certificate Programs

The Biology, Chemistry and Physics Department offers several certificate and degree programs.

Biological Sciences A.S.
In order to meet the growing demands for biological and health science training, this program will prepare you to continue your education in a biological sciences discipline and ultimately pursue a related career.

Biotechnology A.S.
Recognizing the growing need for individuals skilled in techniques of biotechnology, this program offers a curriculum designed to address the interdisciplinary nature of this field.

Biotechnology Certificate
This certificate offers the advanced biology student specialized training in applied techniques of cell culture, immunology, analytical chemistry, molecular biology, biological imaging and analytical cytology. It also serves to provide an opportunity for those individuals with a science background to receive advanced training in biotechnology.

Environmental Science A.S.
The program prepares you to continue your education in an environmental discipline and ultimately pursue a related career.

Physical Sciences A.S.
This program provides a unique curriculum for those who wish to pursue advanced education in chemistry, physics or earth science. The curriculum offers core courses in the physical sciences, as well as additional electives that meet general education requirements for the liberal arts, in preparation for transfer to a four-year school.

The Chemistry track provides you with the foundation needed for transfer to four-year institutions and completion of your bachelor's degree in chemistry. It provides an excellent background and preparation for further advanced study in chemistry, as well as the use of chemistry in a future career path, which may include chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical research and production.
The Physics track provides you with the foundation needed for transfer to four-year institutions and completion of your bachelor's degree in physics. It provides an excellent background and preparation for further advanced study in physics, as well as the use of physics in a future career path, which may include physics, astronomy, atmospheric science or meteorology.
The Earth Science track provides you with the foundation needed for transfer to four-year institutions and the completion of your bachelor's degree in earth science. It will give you an excellent background and preparation for further advanced study in earth science, as well as the use of earth science in a future career path, which may include geology, hydrogeology, marine biology, meteorology, astronomy and oceanography.
