NYS Coaching Certification Courses
Hudson Valley Community College’s Physical Education Department offers the core courses for New York State Coaching Certification as well as the additional full requirements needed for certification.
- SPRT 100 – Philosophy, Principles and Organization of Athletics in Education (3 credits)
- SPRT 101 – Health Sciences as Applied to Coaching (3 credits)
- SPRT 102 - Theory and Techniques of Coaching (2 credits)

All core courses are offered online.
The college also offers an additional core certification course, HLTH 152 – First Aid/CPR, in an online hybrid format, which only requires minimal time on campus.
Two additional required workshops – “Identification and Reporting of Child Abuse and Maltreatment” and “Setting the Stage for Safer Schools: A Two Hour Prevent Violence Training” - are both offered by the college each semester.
To Register for NYS Coaching Certification Courses
Admission to the college is not necessary to complete the certification courses. New students may register online, in person, or by phone by contacting the Office of Continuing Education, Summer Sessions and Workforce Development, (518) 629-7338. Students also must provide a certificate of residence to receive in-state tuition.
Currently enrolled students may register for the courses through their academic advisors.
