Drew Marrochello, Hudson Valley Community College's athletics director, named East Nassau's Randee McArdle head coach of Hudson Valley's women's soccer team today. McArdle spent the 2001 campaign as an assistant coach with the Lady Vikings, helping the squad post a 7-6 record.

"We're very excited about having Randee McArdle at Hudson Valley Community College," Marrochello said. "In her time here at the college, as well as before she came to Hudson Valley, Randee has demonstrated a superior understanding of teamwork."

McArdle is a 2001 graduate of Tufts University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in Clinical Psychology and History. She played four years of varsity soccer and softball at Tufts, and earned the soccer team's Most Valuable Player award in 2000.

Additionally, McArdle was an Academic All-American as a junior, and she received the Tufts University Alumni Association Seniors Award, presented each year to 12 seniors for outstanding student leadership, loyalty and service to Tufts.

Prior to her Hudson Valley employment, McArdle worked as an intern at Boston's Stepping Stone Day Treatment Center, assisting patients who suffered from chronic mental illnesses.

In the 2000-01 academic year, Hudson Valley's athletic teams combined to win 72 percent of their contests. The ice hockey team won the NJCAA championship, the baseball team earned a berth in the NJCAA World Series and the football team won the Region III title. The women's basketball team earned a No. 1 national ranking and turned in a 24-3 record while the men's hoop squad competed in the Region III championship game. Additionally, two Vikings earned Region III Player-of-the-Year status, 20 were named All-Region III performers, and 10 were honored with All-American status.
