Hudson Valley Women’s Soccer Defeats Cobleskill

The Hudson Valley Community College (10-5-1) women’s soccer team advanced to the quarterfinals of the NJCAA Region III Tournament with a 1-0 win over SUNY Cobleskill (9-8) in the tournament’s opening round today in Troy.

Sophomore Brenna Mereness (Castleton/Maple Hill High School) scored the game-winning goal in the 70th minute. She took the pass from sophomore Alyssa Cavosie (Waterford/Shenendehowa High School) and scored from the top of the 18-yard box.

Freshman goalkeeper Kyle Rivette (Spiegletown/Lansingburgh High School) stopped five shots to preserve the win.

Hudson Valley, the tournament’s seventh seed, will advance to meet No. 2 Tompkins Cortland Community College in Dryden at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 23.
