The Hudson Valley Community College (4-3) women's soccer team, off to its best start in three years, will host Clinton Community College at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 27. Clinton (11-0) enters the game ranked second in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III poll.
Hudson Valley, which has already matched its win total from a year ago, has received 12 goals and four assists from sophomore Elizabeth O'Brien (Troy/Lansingburgh High School). She ranks third in Region III in goals scored. Freshman Angela Cazzato (East Greenbush/Columbia High School) has six goals and four assists. Sophomore Candra Scott (Oneonta/Catholic Central High School) has two goals and two assists.
Defensively, sophomore stopper Desiree Devine (Galway/Galway High School) and sophomore sweeper Amy Trowbridge (Chatham/Chatham High School) have kept the opposition away from freshman goalkeeper Kayla Froehlich (Loudonville/Shaker High School).
"Even though they don't always get the recognition that the goal-scorers receive, our defenders are a valuable part of our team," said Hope Niles, co-head coach of Hudson Valley.
Clinton has won three of the last four games between the two schools, including a 4-1 over Hudson Valley in the teams' last meeting on September 29, 2001.
