Hudson Valley Community College's men's and women's soccer teams host a doubleheader against Broome Community College this Saturday, October 5. The women's game begins at noon with the men to follow at 2 p.m. The contests will be played on the Hudson Valley campus.

Hudson Valley's (8-4-0) men have won three of their last four games and enter the contest ranked 10th in the latest NJCAA Division III poll. Broome is 8-2-2 and ranked ninth. Broome's women are a perfect 10-0-0 and are currently 15th in the NJCAA women's soccer rankings.

Forward Rafael Luna (Albany, NY/Albany) has scored seven goals and dished out nine assists to lead the Hudson Valley men this season. Faber Kelly (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) has six goals and five assists while John Ross (Coram/Newfield) netted his fifth goal of the season in a 3-0 win over Adirondack on Wednesday, October 2.

It will be the first game against a nationally-ranked opponent for the Hudson Valley women this season. Christine Parker (Mount Vision/Laurens Central) has scored four of the Vikings (2-2-0) six goals this season. In their last time out, Parker netted two goals in a 2-1 win over Delhi.

In the 2001-02 academic year, Hudson Valley's athletic teams combined to win 65 percent of their contests. The college's softball team traveled to Illinois for the national championship tournament and finished second in the country, and the women's basketball team placed seventh in the nation. Hudson Valley's football team won the Northeast Football Conference, and the baseball and bowling squads each added a Mountain Valley Conference title. Additionally, three Vikings earned Region III Player-of-the-Year status and eight were honored with All-American status.
