Women's Basketball

11/01/2012
2012-13 Season Preview

The women’s basketball team looks to be competitive and get back to the Regional Tournament where they lost in the semifinals to #1 Onondaga last season. It’s a rebuilding year for the Vikings, who lost five players (four starters) and return only two players from last year.

The team lost Arianna Youngs (Lansingburgh/Troy) who earned First-Team All-Region honors, as well as All-Conference honors last season. Also gone are All-Conference guards Erica Houle (Shaker/Latham), the school’s all-time three-point field goal leader, and Kelly Kell (Kingston/Kingston) who ran the point last season for the Vikings.

The young team has nine incoming freshmen and one transfer, which should provide added depth. Angelica Smith (Shaker/Latham) and Meghan Dickson (Shaker/Latham) are the veterans who will provide leadership and experience. Smith, who played a major role in the team’s success last year, will be the team’s post presence. Dickson had an early season ending ACL injury last season, and is hoping to stay healthy and contribute with her strong defensive skills this year. Raeshelle Frasier (Schenectady/Schenectady), a transfer from Schenectady County Community College, is an athletic guard who can also play in the post. My’Asia Alston (Cohoes/Cohoes), Ashley Creighton (Catholic Central/Niskayuna) and Samantha Tomeck (Duanesburg/Duanesburg) are expected to play big minutes and contribute both offensively and defensively. The team looks to play consistent, hard basketball and compete all season.
