Hudson Valley Male and Female Athletes of the Month; Team of the Month - February

Roman MalyshevRoman Malyshev (School No. 90/Moscow, Russia) has been a key part of the offensive success of Hudson Valley's hockey team this season. He scored four goals in February, including a hat-trick in a tough loss to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Club. On the season, Malyshev has 16 points, scoring 10 goals and handing out six assists in only 15 games.

Malyshev helped the hockey team earn a trip to the NJCAA National Hockey Tournament at Monroe Community College. He looks to build off a successful freshman year and help lead the Vikings back to the National Tournament.

Stacey SalisburyStacey Salisbury (Schenectady/Schenectady) joined the Hudson Valley women's basketball team midway through the regular season. She has become a great threat down low as one of the team's best scorers and rebounders. In February, Salisbury had three double-doubles, with her best game recording 17 points and 17 rebounds in a win over Clinton Community College. On the season, she is averaging 15.6 points per game and 11.0 rebounds.

Salisbury was one of three Vikings to earn All-Conference honors, gaining a spot on the second team. She had a key role in helping lead the Vikings to the number three seed in the NJCAA Region III Division III basketball tournament at Tompkins-Cortland Community College.

The Hudson Valley men's bowling team accomplished a great feat this season, finishing in first place with a perfect 30-0 record in the Mountain Valley Conference. This is the first time in more than 15 years that a men's team in the conference has gone undefeated. The Vikings also placed second at the Region III Tournament this month. They head into Nationals in March, knowing they have a good chance at competing for a National Championship.

Head Coach Joe Prest stated, "A majority of the success belongs to my assistant coach, Ryan Paulsen. He understands what it takes to be successful as an individual and a player, as he was one of my past collegiate bowlers. I really just try to keep my team focused and not look ahead. My goals are always to win the conference, Region III Championships and the National Championship."

Hudson Valley had five players named to the All-Conference team, out of six spots, including the conference's Most Valuable Player, John Pulver (Colonie/Albany). The other four players named were Ryan Sickler (Guilderland/Guilderland), Mike Corcione (Colonie/Colonie), Dan DeRizzo (Guilderland/Altamont) and Eric Birdsall (Colonie/Colonie).
