Men's and Women's Basketball Victorious at North Country

The Hudson Valley Community College men's and women's basketball teams each grabbed wins at North Country Community College on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 87-76 and 61-44, respectively.
The women started the double-header off with their 61-44 win. The Lady Vikings were led by the hot shooting of Sarah Carciobolo (Colonie, Colonie). Carciobolo finished with 21 points on five of seven from beyond the three-point line. Paige Colfer (Watervliet, Watervliet) had another impressive double-double with 12 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. The win puts the women above .500 for the first time this season at 8-7.
The men grinded out another hard fought victory against the Saints. After trailing 43-40 at halftime, the Vikings finally took the lead, 67-65, with 7:06 remaining. After several lead changes and ties, Hudson Valley came up with timely stops and scores and eventually found itself leading, 83-76, with a minute left and never looked back.
Ramel Alexander (Berkshire, Albany) had an explosive evening with 27 points and 14 rebounds. Matt Harte (Lansingburgh, Troy) also posted a double-double with 17 points and 10 boards. Newcomer Carlos Pellot-Rivera (Carmel, Carmel) scored 14 in his Viking debut. Anthony Robustiano (Mohonasen, Schenectady) had a game-high seven assists for Hudson Valley.
Both the men and women will take on Mountain Valley Conference rival Herkimer Community College this Saturday, Jan. 23. The women tip at 1 p.m. and the men at 3 p.m.
