Waterford's Kara Sheehan Named Women's Hoop MVP

Otto Guenther Award Winner Will Attend Molloy College On A Full Scholarship
On the strength of a stellar 2000-01 campaign during
which she earned First Team All-Mountain Valley Conference and Second Team
All-Region III honors, Kara Sheehan of Waterford was recently named Most
Valuable Player of Hudson Valley Community College's women's basketball
Sheehan, a sophomore who topped Hudson Valley
with 17.4 points per game in 1999-2000, shared the spotlight in 2000-01
with newcomer and NJCAA Division III Region III Player of the Year Lindsey
Bradt (Bishop Maginn), helping Hudson Valley post a 24-3 record. Sheehan
averaged 14.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists this past season.
Perhaps more impressive, Sheehan, an Individual
Studies major, compiled a 3.69 grade point average, earning Hudson Valley's
Otto Guenther Memorial Award, which is presented each year to the individual
who demonstrates the best combination of academic and athletic success.
Sheehan, who came to Hudson Valley from Catholic
Central High School, will attend Molloy College next academic year. She
received a full athletic/academic scholarship.
Hudson Valley Community College, located in
Troy, offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs in four academic
divisions; Business, Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences;
and Liberal Arts and Sciences. One of 30 community colleges in the State
University of New York system, Hudson Valley Community College has an enrollment
of more than 9,000 students each year, and is known as a leader in distance
learning initiatives and worker retraining.
