Hudson Valley Women’s Basketball Wins at Adirondack

The Hudson Valley Community College (11-12) women’s basketball team raced out to a 42-21 halftime lead and held on for a 58-47 win over Adirondack Community College (4-17) Tuesday night in Queensbury.

Sophomore guard Jenna Smith (Cohoes/Cohoes High School) led Hudson Valley with 24 points and seven steals. Sophomore forward Erika Russo (Salem/Selam High School) had 18 points and 11 rebounds and freshman forward Amber Batzold (Albany/Columbia High School) contributed 14 points.

Hudson Valley has won seven of its eight games since the semester break and will visit Mohawk Valley Community College on Saturday.

Hudson Valley (58): Jean Gijanto 0-1-1, Erika Russo 7-3-18, Jenna Smith 7-8-24, Lauren Monteith 0-1-1, Amber Batzold 6-1-14, Totals: 20-14-58.

Adirondack (47): Judi Durkin 5-6-16, Christina Farrar 2-0-4, Janelle Gillingham 1-0-3, Rachel Henning 5-2-12, Kristina Miller 1-1-3, Elisabeth Morreale 2-0-4, Kaighleigh Whittaker 1-0-2, Totals: 17-9-47.

Three-point goals: Hudson Valley 4 (Russo, Smith 2, Batzold); Adirondack 4 (Durkin 3, Gillingham).

Halftime: Hudson Valley led 42-21.
