Lady Vikings Finish Second at Alfred State Tournament

The Hudson Valley Community College (3-9) women's basketball team took second place in the Alfred State Tournament over the weekend. The Lady Vikings scored a 55-54 upset over Jefferson Community College (5-3) in the opening round on Friday. However, playing for the third straight day, Hudson Valley struggled to score in a 73-32 loss to Alfred State (9-1) in the championship game.

Freshman Felicia Melilli (Poughkeepsie/Poughkeepsie High School) scored 17 points to lead Hudson Valley to the overtime win over Jefferson. Her three-point bucket with 1:30 remaining in regulation propelled the game into overtime.

Sophomore Kristene Longendyke (Kingston/Kingston High School) added 11 points in the win, and freshman Emily Vasquez (Schuylerville/Schuylerville High School) added seven points and 13 rebounds.

The pioneers outscored Hudson Valley 35-9 in the second half of the championship game. Vasquez paced Hudson Valley with eight points.

Melilli was named to the All-Tournament Team.
