After finishing the regular season with a 19-9 record, the Hudson Valley Community College women's basketball team has earned the fourth seed in the 2003 NJCAA Division III Region III tournament.
Hudson Valley will meet #5 Corning Community College in the quarterfinals on Friday, February 28 in Utica, New York. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Hudson Valley, the defending Region III champion, defeated Corning in its only meeting with Red Barons this season. The Lady Vikings limited host Corning to only 27.4 percent (20-for-73) shooting from the floor in a 78-56 win on December 6.
"We need to adhere to our game plan for us to be successful in the tournament this year," said Hudson Valley head coach Colleen Ferris. "It's important for us to be mentally focused and to play as a team."
Sophomore forward Angela Von Wergers (Albany/Bishop Gibbons High School) and freshman center Latrice Cowart (Severn, MD/Meade High School) are third and fifth on the school's single season rebound chart, with 290 and 285 boards, respectively. Julie Broadhead tops the school's single-season list with 308 rebounds, which was accomplished in the 1991-92 season.
Sophomore guard Tanya DeLaMater (Troy/Tamarac High School) tops the team with 15.4 points and 5.5 assists per game.
