Softball Drops Two to #3 Corning

The Hudson Valley Community College softball team (11-5) lost to #3 Corning Community College (24-2) in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Vikings lost game one, 4-1, and lost game two, 8-7.
The Vikings were tied at one until Corning got three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take game one.
Allison Ford (Mechanicville/Mechanicville) led the Vikings, going 3-3 at the plate, and Abby Coyne (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) added a double and the teams only RBI in the first game.
Hudson Valley rallied in the top of the seventh behind a 3-run homerun by Maggie Miller (Maple Hill/Schodack) to tie the game at seven. Corning ended up getting a run in the bottom half of the inning to avoid the upset. Ford recorded another three hits, and Emily Johnson (Tamarac/Wynantskill) added two doubles in the loss. Miller chipped in four RBIs, and recorded eight strikeouts on the mound to take only her third loss of the season.
The softball team travels to Mohawk Valley one Wednesday for a doubleheader at 3 p.m.
