Sharee Deichman of Guilderland was recently presented with Hudson Valley Community College's President's Award for Hustle. The award is presented each year to the student-athlete whose hard work, determination, hustle and attitude have enabled them to make valuable contributions to their team. Deichman, a softball player, also earned Second Team All-Mountain Valley Conference and Second Team All-NJCAA Division III Region III status.

A third baseman who graduated with the class of 2001, Deichman is known by teammates and fans as a fierce competitor. After batting .364 as a freshman, she hit an impressive .402 in 2001, helping the Lady Vikings post a 22-9 record. Deichman also contributed six doubles, seven triples and three home runs this past season.

Deichman, who came to Hudson Valley from Guilderland High School, will attend Cortland State next.

Hudson Valley Community College, located in Troy, offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs in four academic divisions; Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences; and Liberal Arts and Sciences. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, Hudson Valley has an enrollment of more than 9,000 students each year, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and worker retraining.
