Chesebrough Perfect as Softball Advances in Tournament

Sophomore pitcher Tracy Chesebrough (Duanesburg/Duanesburg High School) tossed a perfect game to lead the Hudson Valley Community College (29-13) softball team to a 15-0 win over Alfred State College (16-14) in the opening round of the NJCAA Region III tournament in Troy.
Hudson Valley, the tournament’s second seed, has advanced to the regional final four, a double elimination tournament that will be played at Classie Lassie’s in Wyanantskill. Hudson Valley will meet No. 3 Mohawk Valley Community College in the first game. No. 1 Monroe Community College and No. 5 Corning Community College also have advanced to the tournament.
Chesebrough struck out 13 batters over the five innings to complete her fifth no-hitter of the season and the seventh of her career.
Freshman second baseman Brittany Grossman (Greenport/Hudson High School) led Hudson Valley’s offensive attack. She was three-for-four with two triples and four RBI. Sophomore Kayle Countermine (Rotterdam/Schalmont High School) was two for three with a double and two RBI and sophomore catcher Talia Valenti (Troy/Troy High School) hit a two-run home run.
