Softball Sweeps Weekend

The Hudson Valley Community College (17-10) softball team has won 16 straight games after completing a weekend sweep over North Country Community College (0-6) and Broome Community College (7-8) in Troy. Each game took just five innings to complete.

HUDSON VALLEY 14, 12, NORTH COUNTRY 0,0

Sophomore Kayle Countermine (Rotterdam/Schalmont High School) was three-for-four with a double, triple and four RBI, and freshman Brittany Grossman (Greenport/Hudson High School) was four-for-four with four RBI to lead the Lady Vikings offensive attack in the opener.

Sophomore pitcher Tracy Chesebrough (Duanesburg/Duanesburg High School) allowed just two hits and struck out eight to pick up the win.

Sophomore Sarah Spellman (Delmar/Bethlehem High School) was three-for-four with two RBI and freshman Kara Kolonsky (Stillwater/Stillwater High School) had two hits and drove in three runs in the nightcap.

Freshman pitcher Shana Flood (Glenmont/Bethlehem High School) allowed only two hits and struck out nine to pick up the win.

HUDSON VALLEY 11, 12, BROMME 0, 0

Countermine was three-for-four with two doubles and a home run for Hudson Valley in the opener. Grossman was three-for-three with a double and an RBI. Kolonsky drove in two runs. Chesebrough struck out 12 and allowed just one hit to pick up the win.

Sophomore catcher Talia Valenti (Troy/Troy High School) was three-for-three with a double and four RBI for the Lady Vikings in the nightcap. Freshman Kristen Dorr (Mechanicville/Mechanicville High School) also was three-for-three. Chesebrough picked up her second win of the day after allowing just one hit over four innings. She struck out 10 and walked two.
