Freshman pitcher Tracy Chesebrough (Duanesburg/Duanesburg High School) tossed a no-hitter to lead the Hudson Valley Community College (12-5/5-1 Region III) softball team to a 14-0 win over SUNY Delhi (1-3/1-3 Region III) in the opening game of a doubleheader played earlier today in Troy. Hudson Valley won the nightcap, 8-0.

Chesebrough struck out nine batters over five innings and improved her record to 9-2 on the season. The only Delhi batter to reach base was because of a dropped third strike.

Freshman Sarah Spellman (Bethlehem/Bethlehem High School) was two-for-two with a home run and four RBI to lead the Lady Vikings offensive attack. Chesebrough and freshman Talia Valenti (Troy/Troy High School) each were three-for-three with a double in the opener.

Sophomore pitcher Kim Wintergerst (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School) allowed only two hits over five innings to pick up the win in the second game. She struck out two and walked none.

Spellman added two doubles in the nightcap. Chesebrough, sophomore Ashley Byerwalters (Coeymans Hollow/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School) and freshman Ashley Hoffman (East Greenbush/Columbia High School) each had two hits and an RBI.

Hudson Valley head coach Jeff Beyer picked up his 100th win in the opener. In his fifth season, Beyer currently has a 101-41 record.
