FOR RELEASE: Immediate, Saturday, April 10, 2004

Sophomore Stephanie Goodspeed (Lansingburgh/Lansingburgh High School) tossed her second consecutive shutout to lead the Hudson Valley Community College (12-6-1) softball team to a 1-0 win over Herkimer Community College (8-2) in the opening game of a doubleheader played earlier today in Troy. Herkimer rebounded to take the second game, 5-4.

Goodspeed scattered seven hits over seven innings of work in the opener. She struck out six and walked one.

Freshman Erin Clemente (Troy/Troy High School) singled to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning. She stole second and third base and scored the game's only run when Herkimer's shortstop misplayed a ground ball that would have been the third out.

Herkimer rallied from a 4-2 deficit to win the nightcap.

Freshman Mindy McDonough (Lansingburgh/Lansingburgh High School) hit a two-run triple to spark a four-run third inning for Hudson Valley.

Despite taking the loss in the second game because of an unearned run in the sixth inning, Goodspeed has not allowed an earned run in 19 consecutive innings.

The loss in the nightcap snapped Hudson Valley's nine-game winning streak.
