Hudson Valley Softball Rallies to Remain Alive in Region III Tournament

Trailing 1-0 with two outs in the top of the seventh inning, the
Hudson Valley Community College (29-7) softball team rallied for four runs
and held on to defeat Monroe Community College 4-3 in an elimination game
at the NJCAA Region III tournament in Horseheads.
Hudson Valley, who lost to Corning, 3-0, in the opening game of
the double-elimination tournament, will meet the Red Barons again in
tomorrow's elimination game. First pitch is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
Sophomore Casey Brinkman (Troy/Troy High School) singled to lead
off the seventh inning. After a pair of ground outs, freshman Meg
McLoughlin (Troy/Troy High School) singled home Brinkman to tie the game
at 1-1. The Vikings then stretched their lead to 4-1 with the help of two
consecutive errors by Monroe.
Freshman pitcher Stephanie Goodspeed (Lansingburgh/Lansingburgh
High School) allowed three runs on six hits to improve to 7-3 on the year.
She struck out five batters. Sophomore Kim Welcome (Cohoes/Cohoes High
School) had two doubles to lead the Hudson Valley attack.
Freshman pitcher Heidi Brooks (Wayland/Wayland-Cohocton High
School) scattered four hits over seven innings to lead Corning over Hudson
Valley in the opener. She fanned six batters
