Hudson Valley Hands Broome First Loss Of The Season

Binghamton, N.Y., May 3, 2002 – After dropping a tough road game in extra innings, 5-4, Hudson Valley Community College's softball squad rebounded nicely, taking the nightcap of a doubleheader against Broome Community College, 10-1.

By winning game two, Hudson Valley busted up Broome's 29-game winning streak. Broome, ranked fourth in the nation among Division III junior colleges, is now 29-1 overall. Hudson Valley, ranked seventh, is 24-7 overall and 23-2 in NJCAA Division III Region III action.

The Lady Vikings have won 21 of their last 23 games.

Jill Fox (Bishop Maginn H.S.) led Hudson Valley's offense in the first game, contributing three singles and two runs batted in. Catcher Sarah Truax (Shenendehowa H.S.) had an RBI double in the eighth inning, temporarily giving Hudson Valley the lead. She also scored.

Kelly Scott (Schuylerville H.S.) tossed the first five innings for the Lady Vikings, scattering three hits and allowing just one run.

Hudson Valley's Christyn Hamel (Averill Park H.S.) tossed a complete-game two hitter in the second contest, striking out four batters. She also helped herself at the plate, whacking two doubles. Truax, Kiah Narotski (Hoosick Falls H.S.) and Megan Davis (Greenwich H.S.) each had two hits. Narotski had a triple and she scored three runs.
