The Hudson Valley Community College (3-3/1-3 Region III) men’s soccer team had its upset bid fall just short in a 1-0 overtime loss to SUNY Cobleskill (6-0/6-0) this afternoon in Troy. Cobleskill, last year’s Region III runner-up, entered the game ranked No. 4 in the latest NJCAA Division III poll.
Freshman Kwame Sarpong (Bronx/Beacon High School) scored the game-winner off a corner kick with 36 seconds remaining in the first sudden death overtime.
Both goaltenders made several good saves to keep the game scoreless through the first 100 minutes. Sophomore Abdou Seck (Bronx/DeWitt Clinton High School) stopped five shots for Cobleskill. Freshman Trent Mendrysa (East Greenbush/Columbia High School) made six saves for Hudson Valley
Hudson Valley will host Clinton Community College at 4 p.m. on Friday, September 14.
