FOR RELEASE: Immediate, Friday, May 6, 2005

Matt Jones, a three-year team captain at the College of Saint Rose, has been named the men's soccer coach at Hudson Valley Community College.

"Our men's soccer program should be among the best in Region III every year. Matt's excellent soccer background, as a player and a coach, and his desire to win should help us return to the regional tournament," stated Hudson Valley Athletic Director Drew Marrochello.

Jones has served as a head coach in the Blackwatch Premier Soccer Club's Women's Program since 2002.

He has been an assistant coach with Saint Rose's women's team since 2003, helping the Golden Knights to two consecutive NCAA Division II tournaments. He also served as an assistant coach for the Golden Knights' men's team last season.

As a player, Jones is the third all-time leading scorer at Saint Rose with 17 goals and 14 assists. He's also played with the Electric City Shockers and the Albany Blackwatch Highlanders Premier Development League team.

Jones, who lives in Ballston Lake, replaces John Meehan, who compiled a 51-29-2 record in five years as the head coach of the Vikings.
