The Hudson Valley Community College men's soccer team got its season off to a good start by capturing the Tompkins Cortland Community College Tournament over the weekend. Hudson Valley (2-0) defeated Dutchess Community College, 1-0, on Saturday, August 28, and beat Holyoke Community College, 2-1, on Sunday, August 29.

Sophomore Ryan Clair (Schenectady/Schenectady High School) took a through ball from sophomore Mike Vooris (Castleton/Maple Hill High School) and scored from 20 yards away, two minutes into the second overtime, to give the Vikings the win over Dutchess.

Freshman goalie Ryan Savery (East Greenbush/Columbia High School) made five saves to earn the shutout in his first collegiate game.

Hudson Valley took a 2-0 lead against Holyoke on goals by Vooris and freshman Craig Houck (Altamont/Berne-Knox-Westerlo).

Holyoke scored to cut the Vikings lead in half with five minutes remaining in the first period, but was unable to get the equalizer past Savery, who made four saves on the day.

Clair and freshman Matt Lathrop (Albany/Albany High School) had assists for Hudson Valley.

The Vikings will return to action on Wednesday, September 8 when they host Morrisville State College at 4:30 p.m.
