The National Junior College Athletic Association
recently named defenseman Chris Mahigian (Tamarac H.S.) a Second
Team All-American. The second-year student-athlete, a Troy native and a
tri-captain on Hudson Valley Community College's 2001 men's soccer team,
led the Vikings to a school-record-tying 13 wins and a No. 11 ranking in
the final NJCAA Division III coaches poll.
Thanks in part to Mahigian's team-leading 10
assists, the Vikings posted a 13-4 record in 2001 and advanced to the semifinal
round of the NJCAA Division III Region III playoffs. Mahigian also had
three goals, and the 13 victories tied the school mark for wins in a season,
set by Hudson Valley's 1992 squad. By finishing the season in the No. 11
spot, Hudson Valley jumped three spots from its final ranking in 2000.
Mahigian's solid defense helped Hudson Valley
snare a 1-0 early-season victory over Michigan's Macomb Community College,
who went on to capture the 2001 Division III national title.
"Chris Mahigian is a ferocious defender," said

school gets his services next is going to love what he brings to the table.

"I'll miss having Chris in our lineup," Meehan
said. "But I'm very proud of him; he very much deserved to be named an
