For only the second time in school history, the Hudson Valley Community College men's basketball team will be competing in the NJCAA Division III National Championships.

Hudson Valley will take on 2002 national champion College of DuPage (IL) on Thursday, March 12 at 8 p.m. at SUNY Delhi. The Vikings earned their trip to the national tournament with a thrilling come-from-behind 59-56 victory against Finger Lakes Community College last week in the Region III championship game. The Vikings are 31-2 on the season, and broke the school record of 30 wins held by the 2007-08 team. They are ranked second in the latest NJCAA Division III national poll.

Dalton Austin-Michaud (Ichabod Crane HS/Valatie), fresh off earning MVP honors in the regional tournament, is one of six Viking players averaging between nine and 14 points per game. Dalton averages 10.5 ppg and 7.7 rpg. Dalton started his career at Columbia-Greene Community College and has totaled 993 points in his career. Dalton's brother, Ian Austin-Michaud (Ichabod Crane HS/Valatie), earned all-tournament honors in the regional tournament. Ian is leading the team in rebounding with 9.1 rpg. Ramel Alexander (Albany HS/Albany), Pat Barnes (Mohonasen HS/ Rotterdam) and Garret Bishop (Saratoga Springs HS/Saratoga) round out the well-balanced, all Section II, starting line-up. Alexander has led the team in scoring all year, averaging 13.7 ppg and 5.4 rpg. Barnes has been consistent all season, averaging 11.2 ppg and 6.5 rpg, and has tallied 54 blocks on the season.
