The Hudson Valley Community College (11-0/9-0 Region III) men’s basketball team put its undefeated record and national number one ranking on the line tonight against third-ranked SUNY Cobleskill (7-2/7-2 Region III) and came away with an 89-75 win in front of more than 1,000 fans at the McDonough Sports Complex in Troy.

Hudson Valley limited Cobleskill to just 24.3 percent (nine-for-37) shooting from the floor in the first half and raced out to a 47-27 halftime lead.

Cobleskill went on a 13-2 run to start the second half and cut its deficit to nine points with 16 minutes remaining in the game. However, that would be the closest the Tigers would get as Hudson Valley eventually stretched its lead to 24 points, 87-63 with 2:35 remaining in the game.

Sophomore guard Justin Gallo (Brunswick/Lansingburgh High School) paced five Hudson Valley players in double-figures scoring with 19 points. Sophomore Datwan Hemingway (Albany/CBA) posted his 10th double-double of the season with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore guard Emanuel Mayben (Troy/Troy High School) filled up the stat sheet with 17 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Sophomore guard Just-IN’Love Smith (Sacramento, CA/Columbia High School) had a season-high 16 points and sophomore forward Derick Faragon (Schenectady/Schenectady High School) added 11 points and eight boards.
