Hudson Valley Men's Basketball Captures Own Tournament

Sophomore guards Justin Gallo (Brunswick/Lansingburgh High School) and Emanuel Mayben (Troy/Troy High School) combined for 61 points to lead the Hudson Valley Community College (2-0) men's basketball team to a 109-98 win over Schenectady County Community College (2-1) in the championship game of the Viking Club Invitational in Troy.

Gallo poured in 31 points and had five steals and Mayben had 30 points and dished out five assists for the Vikings, who shot 55.6 percent (40-for-72) from the floor.

Hudson Valley trailed only once, 2-0 early in the game, but never led by more than 15 points in the back-and-forth affair.

Sophomore forward Derick Faragon (Schenectady/Schenectady High School) was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after finishing with 16 points and seven rebounds for the Vikings. Sophomore Datwan Hemingway (Albany/CBA) was named to the All-Tournament Team after posting his second straight double-double with 15 points and 17 rebounds. Sophomore guard Ryne Luce (Cohoes/Cohoes High School) chipped in 12 points.

Schenectady's Tyrone Butler (Schenectady) and Steve Freese (Johnstown) also were named to the All-Tournament Team. Butler finished with 21 points and Freese had 14 points. Sophomore Brian Travis (Ballston Spa) also had 21 points for the Royals.

Hudson Valley will return to action Tuesday, November 6 when it hosts Ulster Community College at 7 p.m.
