Men's Basketball Defeats Canton 86-67

(Canton, N.Y.)- Hudson Valley Community Collegeused a big run midway through the second half to pull away to a 86-67 win over SUNY Canton Monday night at Dana Hall.
The Vikings were up 60-57 with 10:38 left in the second half when they reeled off a 15-3 run, helped out by four Northstars turnovers and three missed shots from the field, to extend the lead back to double digits and seal the win.
SUNY Canton scored the first points of the game on an offensive rebound and put back by Andrew Aimetti (Staten Island, N.Y.), but then trailed for the remainder of the half and fell behind 44-40 at the break.
The Northstars (4-6) finally regained the lead three minutes into the second half when Ahmed Edwards (Wyandanch, N.Y.) knocked down two of his game-high 24 points, giving SUNY Canton a 48-46 lead. The lead changed hands five times over the next two minutes before Tim Kindlon scored two of his 14 points that gave Hudson Valley the lead for good.
SUNY Canton shot 51 percent from the floor (28-54) for the game, helped out by Edwards who was a scorching 11 of 12 from the field. Edwards also had two assists and two steals.
Ruben Williams (Memphis, Tenn.) was the only other SUNY Canton player to reach double figures as he dropped in 13 points and grabbed four rebounds with three steals.
Brandon Hall (Syracuse, N.Y.) added nine points, five rebounds and two blocks. John King (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had five points, four rebounds and three assists. Wilkins Feliz (New York, N.Y.) also had five points and Aimetti finished with four points and a steal.
Maurice Frye (Middletown, NY) and Bill Heslin (Schaghticoke, NY) each scored 15 for the Vikings, who shot an impressive 60 percent from the field (36-60) and were 8 of 9 from the free throw line.
Antwan Gibson (Troy, NY) scored nine points and pulled down four boards, and Bob Boughton (Glenmont, NY) chipped in with nine points and three assists for Hudson Valley.
