Lacrosse 2011 Season Preview
With only a few returning players, this year's lacrosse team is very young and inexperienced. Despite this, the Vikings opened the season ranked nine in the National Junior College Pre-season Polls. The team returns its top two scoring middies, James Bryant (White Plains/White Plains) and James Christenson (Bethlehem/White Plains), who will be depended on to carry the scoring load. Two talented freshmen, Mason Agosto (Cary-Grove/Cary, IL) and Ryan Polak (Ridgewood (NJ)/Cincinnati, OH), are expected to make immediate impacts on offense. The defense will be led by captains Zac Lafarr (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) and Tom Stoddard (Valley Central/Montgomery). Lafarr will lead a very young, but talented, defense with possibly two freshmen starting beside him. Second-year starter Cody Sholtes (Colonie/Albany) assumes the responsibility of shutting down the opposing team's top- scoring threats. Paul Nicsevic Jr. (Colonie/Colonie) makes the transition from hockey to lacrosse to be the starting goalie this season for the Vikings.
Head Coach Joe Hayes is excited about the season, stating, "We have some very talented freshmen, transfers and returners that we are counting on to help this team toward a third consecutive conference title and sixth straight regional appearance. I believe this team has a very challenging season ahead of it, playing six of the top ten teams in the nation. We believe that playing the best teams will prepare our players for the struggles of a national championship and moving on to the next level. If this team works hard, we will be making a run for the conference title and a national championship at the end of the season!"
