The hockey team at Hudson Valley Community College will hold a Media Day on Thursday, November 1. Players and coaches will be available for interviews and photographs from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Robert M. Conway Jr. Ice Arena, which is located in Hudson Valley's McDonough Sports Complex.

Hudson Valley posted a 24-4 record in 2000-01 and captured its first junior college national title by defeating Minot State University-Bottineau in Bottineau, N.D. Hudson Valley was one of just three collegiate national champions in 2001. National titles were won at the NCAA Division I (Boston College), NCAA Division III (Plattsburgh State) and junior college levels.

Hudson Valley boasted six All-Americans last season, four of whom will return to lead this year's squad. The returning All-Americans are: Michael Paine (Saratoga H.S.), who was third on the team with 53 points in 2000-01; Jim Sturges (East Hampton H.S., MA), who led the nation in scoring with 66 points; Dean Vandervort (North Burlington H.S., NJ), the Most Valuable Player at the national championship tournament; and goaltender Jason Vasco (CBA), who played 900 minutes last season and posted a 2.78 goals against average.

The Vikings begin their 2001-02 campaign at Siena College on October 30. They begin Eastern Junior College Hockey League play on November 3, with a home contest against SUNY Canton.

Hudson Valley Community College, located in Troy, offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs in four academic divisions; Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences; and Liberal Arts and Sciences. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, Hudson Valley Community College has an enrollment of more than 9,000 students each year, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and worker retraining.
