The Hudson Valley Community College ice hockey team is off to their best start ever. They finished the first semester 11 - 1 overall and 6 - 0 in Region III play and are currently ranked second in the latest NJCAA National Rankings.

This season, the Vikings have enjoyed a high powered offense, boasting six players with 10 or more points. Freshman forward Charles Britt (West Valley HS/ Fairbanks, AK) leads the attack with 19 total points. Sophomore co-captain Paul Chamberlain (Niskayuna HS/ Niskayuna) leads all players with 14 assists and 17 total points. Freshman forwards Mike Walsh (LaSalle Institute/ East Greenbush), Pat Simmons (Lynn Classical/ Lynn, MA), Brendan Costin (Lynnfield HS/ Lynnfield, MA) and Sean Starvish (East Windsor HS/ East Windsor, CT) have each chipped in with double digit points.

Their solid defensive core has also contributed to their early success. Sophomore captain Nicholas Kemp (El Segundo HS/ El Segundo, CA) has logged heavy minutes in all but two games this season, heading up a lineup of reliable freshman. Michael Salas (Miami Palmetto HS/ Miami, FL), Joshua Jaquish (Willsboro Central HS/ Willsboro), Andrew Ojeda (Suffern HS/ Suffern) and Brendan Johnson (Ogdensburg Free Academy/ Ogdensburg) have added to the team's defensive efforts thus far.

The Vikings are strong in net, starting with sophomore Kevin Bowdidge (Stoneham HS/ Stoneham, MA). Bowdidge leads the team in all goaltending categories including five wins, a save percentage of .949, and a goals against average of .88 in 273 minutes. Bowdidge's goals against average is currently second in the nation. Second year goaltender Jonathan Morales (Grossmont HS/ San Diego, CA) also features an undefeated record at 4- 0 and freshman Justin Barnard was solid in two games at Monroe Community College, giving the Vikings their first win over the Tribunes since 2002.

The team returns to action for a two game set verse the Erie Community College Kats starting on Friday, Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. at the Conway Ice Arena. This is the first of three meetings between the two teams.
