After a short Thanksgiving break, the Hudson Valley Community College men’s hockey team returned to the ice Wednesday night with another league win against the North Country Saints in Saranac Lake, NY. With the win, the Vikings improved their overall record to 8 – 1 overall and 5 – 1 in the NJCAA Region III.
The Vikings received goals from four different players in the hard fought 4 – 2 victory. Sean Starvish (East Windsor HS/ East Windsor, CT) got the scoring started midway through the first period with a power play goal. Charles Britt (West Valley HS/ Fairbanks, AK) put the Vikings up 2 – 0 in the second with his 12th goal of the season. The Saints tied it up late in the second period, but Brendan Constin (Lynnfield HS/Lynnfield, MA) put the Vikings back on top with the eventual game winner late in the third period. Greg Prazych (Saratoga HS/ Saratoga Springs) added an insurance goal just one minute later on a shot from the point to seal the deal. Paul Chamberlain (Niskayuna HS/ Niskayuna) assisted on three of the Vikings four goals and Kevin Bowdidge (Stoneham HS/ Stoneham, MA) stopped 26 of 28 shots faced to improve his record to 5 – 0.
The Vikings return home this weekend for a two game non-league set against the Maine Moose Junior A team. The Moose participate in the International Junior Hockey League’s Super Elite division. Currently, Maine ranks third in the IJHL, just two points out of second. Saturday’s game is slated to begin at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. Both games will be played at Hudson Valley’s Conway Ice Arena.
