Hudson Valley Hockey Rallies to Beat Mohawk Valley

The Hudson Valley Community College (8-9-2) ice hockey team rallied from a two-goal deficit to take a 5-4 overtime win over Mohawk Valley Community College (12-9-1) at the Conway Ice Arena in Troy.
Sophomore Brian Pekala (West Sand Lake/Averill Park High School) scored the game-winning goal on the power play with 2:28 remaining in overtime. He tapped home the rebound after sophomore Eric Nichols (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills High School) shot caromed off the goaltender.
The Vikings trailed 3-1 entering the third period. After killing off a 4-on-3 Mohawk Valley power play for 1:20, Hudson Valley had its own three-minute power play. The Vikings cut its deficit to a goal when freshman Adam Rakoczy (Clifton Park/CBA) scored off a rebound.
Hudson Valley tied the game with 12:03 remaining in the third period on a goal by Sean Caruso (Waterford/LaSalle Institute) and took a 4-3 lead two minutes later on a blast from the left side by freshman Eric Olds (Scotia/CBA).
Mohawk Valley tied the game on Kevin McCready’s (Poughkeepsie) second goal of the game with 6:44 left in regulation.
Hudson Valley returns to action Saturday, February 9 when it visits Erie Community College for a 7:40 p.m. contest.
