FOR RELEASE: Immediate, Wednesday, December 7, 2005

If the number of shots a team took was somehow calculated into the final score, the Hudson Valley Community College ice hockey team would have cruised to an easy victory at Broome Community College on Wednesday. However, Broome goaltender Matt DeSoutels turned away the first 37 shots he faced and made 41 saves in a 1-1 tie with the Vikings.

Hudson Valley (3-6-1) outshot the Hornets 42-8 in the contest, including a 21-2 advantage over the final period and overtime.

Broome (0-7-1) took a 1-0 lead with 59 seconds remaining in the opening period on a goal by Ryan Gonyea.

The teams remained scoreless over the next 36 minutes before freshman Eric Park (Los Angeles, CA/Green Pastures Academy) scored the equalizer with 5:17 remaining in the third period.
