Hudson Valley Hockey Wins Fifth Game of the Season

The Hudson Valley Community College ice hockey team scored three first period goals in a 4-1 win over the Hudson Valley Junior Eagles (18-7-2) earlier tonight in Troy.
The Vikings are off to a 5-1 start this season, which ties the best six-game start in the program's history. Hudson Valley also was 5-1 after six games in 1999-2000 and in 1995-96.
The Eagles opened the scoring with a breakaway goal by Henrik Oloffson, 6:18 into the opening period.
The Vikings responded with first period goals by sophomores Aaron Coopersmith (Souderton, PA/Souderton High School), Stephen Barrett (Claverack/Hudson High School) and Richard McKenna (Greenwood Lake, NJ/Don Bosco Prep) to take a comfortable 3-1 lead into the first intermission.
Sophomore Andrew Usas (Milton/The Winchendon School, MA) added an insurance goal for Hudson Valley with 2:50 remaining in the contest.
Sophomore goalie Bryan McDonald (Ballston Lake/Shenendehowa High School) stopped 30 shots in net for the Vikings.
The Vikings will host North Country Community College at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 20.
