FOR RELEASE: Immediate, Saturday, February 7, 2004
Freshman goalie Bryan McDonald (Ballston Lake/Shenendehowa High School) stopped all 22 shots he faced to lead the Hudson Valley Community College (8-8-1) ice hockey team to a 5-0 win over the Ramapo Jr. Rangers (18-9-2) earlier tonight in Troy.
McDonald has not allowed a goal in his last 141 minutes dating back to January 18. Coupled with last Wednesday's 8-0 win over Broome, it is the first time the Vikings have recorded back-to-back shutouts since the 1999-2000 season.
Five different players lit the lamp for the Vikings. Sophomore forward Joel Crouse (Oswego/Oswego High School) scored off an assist from freshman forward Stephen Robinson (Liverpool/Liverpool High School), 1:55 into the second period, to give Hudson Valley a 1-0 lead.
Hudson Valley went up 2-0 seven minutes later on a goal by freshman forward Kenny Holvig (New City/Clarkstown South High School).
Scoring third period goals for Hudson Valley were freshmen forwards Mike VanBaaren (Albany/LaSalle Institute), Aaron Coopersmith (Souderton, PA/Souderton Area High School) and Joe Jeram (Latham/Shaker High School).
Hudson Valley will return home at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, February 13 to take on Morrisville State College.
