Sophomore forward Jason Faas (Latham/Shaker High School) put back a rebound with 3:32 remaining in the third period to lift the Hudson Valley Community College ice hockey team to a 2-1 win over County College of Morris earlier tonight in Troy.
Hudson Valley, which had lost two straight games against Morris, improved its record to 3-1 on the year. The Titans fall to 1-6.
After a scoreless opening period, Hudson Valley struck first midway through the second period on a goal by sophomore forward Kevin Moteyunas (Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse High School). He was assisted by Faas and freshman defenseman Jeff Weaver (Abington, PA/Uppermoreland High School).
Morris responded early in the third period when a shot by Joseph Mahoney trickled past the Hudson Valley goaltender and into the net to tie the game at 1-1.
In what was a physical contest that included 25 penalties, the Vikings were able to score the game-winning goal on a power play when Faas knocked in the rebound off a shot from freshman forward Joe Jeram (Latham/Shaker High School).
Freshman goaltender Bryan McDonald (Ballston Lake/Shenendehowa High School) made 26 saves in net for Hudson Valley.
