Hudson Valley Hockey Wins Opener

The Hudson Valley Community College (1-0) ice hockey team got its season off to a good start with a 7-1 win over Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts earlier tonight in the Conway Ice Arena.

The Hudson Valley freshmen made an immediate impact. Forward Joe Jeram (Latham/Shaker High School) netted two goals. Defenseman Devin Krichbaum (Pattersonville/Sault Area, MI High School) scored a goal and assisted on two others. Forwards Aaron Coopersmith (Souderton, PA/Souderton Area High School) and Kenny Holvig (New City/Clarkstown South High School) each had a goal and an assist.

Also scoring for Hudson Valley were sophomore forwards Jason Faas (Latham/Shaker High School) and Ben Thibert (LaFargeville/LaFargeville High School).

Freshman goaltender Bryan McDonald (Ballston Lake/Shenendehowa High School) made eight saves in 29 minutes of scoreless work. Sophomore Dave Baranowski (Valley Falls/Hoosic Valley High School) added 19 saves in 31 minutes of action.

Hudson Valley will open up Eastern Junior College Hockey League play when it hosts SUNY Canton at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 1.
