Sophomore forward Brent Sheehan (Troy/Christian Brothers Academy) scored two second-period goals to lead the Hudson Valley Community College (3-11, 3-9 Eastern Junior College Hockey League) hockey team to a 6-2 win over Broome Community College (1-14, 0-12 EJCHL) earlier tonight in Troy. Hudson Valley has won seven consecutive games over Broome dating back to 1998.
Hudson Valley outshot the visiting Hornets 24-4 in the second period but was unable to score until defenseman Michael Hurley's (Oswego/Oswego High School) shot from the blue line rippled the net with 5:16 remaining in the period to give the Vikings a 2-1 lead. Sheehan then tallied goals with 4:01 and 3:17 left in the period to give Hudson Valley a commanding 4-1 advantage it would never relinquish.
Freshman forward Daniel Keyser (Hudson/Taconic Hills High School) opened the scoring for Hudson Valley, 6:08 into the first period, off a pass from freshman forward Kevin Moteyunas (Syracuse/Cicero North Syracuse High School).
Also registering goals for Hudson Valley were sophomore forward Luke Paye (Pulaski/Pulaski High School) and sophomore defenseman Matt Luther (Guilderland/Guilderland High School).
Freshman goaltender Dave Baranowski (Valley Falls/Hoosic Valley High School) made 17 saves to pick his third win of the season for the Vikings.
Hudson Valley will host County College of Morris on Saturday, February 8 at 12:30 p.m.
