The Hudson Valley Community College ice hockey team will open the 2003-04 season at 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 25, against Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in the Conway Ice Arena.
Under second-year head coach Matt Alvey, the Vikings are looking to improve on last year's 3-14 team. Hudson Valley returns six players from a year ago, including starting goaltender Dave Baranowski (Valley Falls/Hoosic Valley High School) and Mike Guilfoil (Liverpool/Liverpool High School), who had five goals and six assists in 2002-03.
Thirty-nine players opened camp with the Vikings on October 1, and Alvey is expecting big things from his freshmen.
"We are a much larger and much deeper team than a year ago," Alvey said. "I like what I've seen in camp thus far this fall.'
Hudson Valley opens play in the Eastern Junior College Hockey League (EJCHL) on Saturday, November 1, against 15-time national champion SUNY Canton.
