Navy Prep (2-0) used four blocked kicks to defeat Hudson Valley Community College, 31-13, earlier today in Newport, Rhode Island.

Navy Prep blocked three punts and took advantage of a bad Hudson Valley (0-1) snap on a punt to set up all four of its touchdowns.

Leading just 7-0 with 3:26 remaining in the first half, Navy Prep running back Karlos Whittaker (North Chicago, IL) ran it in from 11 yards out to put the Rams up 14-0. The 23-yard drive, Navy Prep's longest touchdown drive of the day, was set up by a bad Hudson Valley punt snap.

After stopping the Vikings on the next drive, Quentin Griffin (Rome, GA) blocked the punt and Tyree Barnes (Hampton, VA) picked up the ball on the 36 yard line and took it to the end zone to put Navy Prep up 21-0 with 43 second remaining.

Hudson Valley freshman Rashad Howard (Newport News, VA/Heritage High School) returned the ensuing kickoff to the Navy Prep 32 yard line. The return set up a 32-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Jonah Chappel (Brownfield, ME/Fryeburg Academy) to freshman Ricky Johnson (Newport News, VA/Heritage High School). A blocked extra point left Navy Prep with a 21-6 lead.

The final blocked punt came on Hudson Valley's first possession of the second half and set up a one-yard touchdown run by Justin Guzman (Fullerton, CA) to put the Rams up 31-6.

Hudson Valley held a 274-228 total yardage advantage and had possession for 32:03 in the game, but could not overcome its problems on special teams.

Chappell completed nine of 25 passes for 145 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Vikings. Freshman Dontay Wilson (Stamford, CT/Stamford High School) carried the ball 21 times for 66 yards.

Quarterback Kaipo Kaheaku (Kapolei, HI) had 68 yards on 11 carries to lead Navy Prep.

Defensively for Hudson Valley, sophomore defensive end Jonal St.-Dic (Elizabeth, NJ/Elizabeth High School) finished with eight tackles, including four tackles for loss, a sack, and a forced fumble. Sophomore linebacker Shonda Faulkner (Poughkeepsie/Poughkeepsie High School) added seven tackles.

Hudson Valley will return home to play RPI JV at noon on Sunday, September 12.
