Schenectady Resident Runs Away With MVP Honors

Brandie Tyler of Schenectady was recently honored
as the Most Valuable Player of Hudson Valley Community College's 2000 women's
cross country squad.
Tyler, a Physical Education major, improved
dramatically throughout the course of the season, besting her personal
record for five kilometers (3.1 miles) each time she raced. At the first
meet of the season, at Broome Community College, Tyler was clocked in 25
minutes, 37 seconds, an average of 8:26 per mile.
Five meets later, in the hilly season finale
at SUNY Delhi, Tyler averaged 7:46 per mile and ran 23:07, improving by
2:30 from the start of the season. At the SUNY Delhi meet, which served
as the Mountain Valley Conference championship, Tyler placed eighth, missing
All-Conference status by just one spot.
Tyler came to Hudson Valley from Schenectady
Hudson Valley Community College, located in
Troy, offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs in four academic
divisions; Business, Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences;
and Liberal Arts and Sciences. One of 30 community colleges in the State
University of New York system, Hudson Valley Community College has an enrollment
of more than 9,000 students each year, and is known as a leader in distance
learning initiatives and worker retraining.
