Hudson Valley Women's Bowling Capture NJCAA National Title, Men Runner-Up

The Hudson Valley Community College women's bowling team won the NJCAA National Championship on Saturday, March 6. The men's team fell short of Vincennes University (IN) in the final, but beat out nine other teams for the second-place finish. The event was held at Erie Community College.
This is the second National Title that the women have won. The last was in the 1995 season. Both championships were won under hall of fame head coach, Joe Prest.
Devan Hodlik (Watervliet, Watervliet) and Nicole Sheldon (Columbia, East Greenbush) won the NJCAA National Doubles Title with a score of 1250. Teammates Alicia Brisson (Lansingburgh, Speigletown) and Rebecca Duncan (Clayton A. Bouton, Voorheesville) came in third in doubles. The Lady Vikings swept the singles event as Duncan took first nationally. Hodlik finished second and Sheldon, third.
Hudson Valley placed six NJCAA All-Americans. For the women, Hodlik won the All-Event Title with a 211 average. Duncan came in second with a 205 average, Sheldon took fifth with a 200 average and Brisson was sixth with a 197. For the men, Alex Weglarz (Hoosic Valley, Schaghticoke) took third overall with a 226 average and Bill Pulver (Colonie, Colonie) was fourth with a 220 average.
Both teams have been invited to compete in the Intercollegiate Bowling Sectionals on Saturday, March 12 in Allentown, PA.
