FOR RELEASE: Immediate, Saturday, May 4, 2013

The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (16-11) split with Jefferson Community College (25-16) on Saturday afternoon. The Vikings lost the first game, 8-5, but came back and shut out the Cannoneers in game two, 10-0.

The Vikings rallied late in game one, scoring three runs in the seventh but fell just short. Mike Sunkes (Catholic Central/Waterford) led the team with three hits and an RBI, and Alex Lushkevich (Saratoga/Saratoga Springs) went 2-2 with two walks and a run scored in the loss.

The story of the day came from game two, as Charles Parslow (Fonda-Fultonville/Fonda) threw a perfect game to shutout Jefferson, 10-0, in five innings due to the mercy rule. 15 batters came up and 15 were sent down, as Parslow never issued a hit or walk, striking out six on the afternoon. Earlier in the season, he threw a complete game one-hitter against Jefferson in his first collegiate start and now improves to 5-0 on the season. Statistically, Jefferson is the top hitting team in the Region entering today’s games. The Vikings jumped out to an early lead scoring five runs in the first and four in the second. John Craig (Shenedehowa/Clifton Park) led the offensive attack with two doubles and four RBIs.

The Vikings travel to Clinton tomorrow for a doubleheader starting at noon.
