TROY, NY – Rich Guillod (Closter, NJ/Northern Valley) drove in four runs and Justin Shannon (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) threw a five-hitter as Hudson Valley Community College (27-8) advanced to the NJCAA Region III final four with an 8-0 win over Finger Lakes Community College (19-21) on Tuesday at Joe Bruno Stadium. With the win, the Vikings will play Herkimer Community College on Friday at Dwyer Stadium in Batavia, New York. The starting time for the game will be announced tomorrow morning.

It was a pitchers' dual for the first four innings of this scoreless game as Shannon allowed two hits and struck out three while his counterpart Billy Harvey did not allow a hit while striking out three.

But in the fifth inning, the Vikings got to Harvey as they scored four runs on five hits. With one out, Harvey hit Casey Job with a pitch and Max Keado and Mike Guillod followed with infield singles to load the bases. Rich Guillod came up and hit a deep drive into right-center for a bases clearing triple to give Hudson Valley a 3-0 lead. Scott Robinson drove in Guillod with an RBI single to right, ending Harvey's day.

In the sixth inning, the Vikings added to their lead on RBI singles by Keado, Rich Guillod and John Barna.

That would be more than enough run support for Shannon, who recorded his first shutout of the season. He allowed five hits in seven innings and struck out six to improve his record to 6-1.
