Vikings’ Extend Winning Streak To 8 Games With Sweep Of Herkimer

TROY, NY – The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team extended its winning streak to eight games with a doubleheader sweep of Herkimer Community College today at Joe Bruno Stadium. The Vikings held off the Generals’ 10-7 in game one, and took the nightcap, 9-2.

In game one, Mike McCrone (Binghamton, NY/Whitney Point) and Max Keado (Troy, NY/Catholic Central) each went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI while Rich Guillod (Closter, NJ/Northern Valley) went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI, including a home run in the fourth inning.

After the Generals jumped out to a 3-0 lead, Hudson Valley rallied with five runs on four hits in the second inning. Ryan Washburn hit a bases loaded single to right field and Keado followed with a two-run triple to tie the game at 3-3. Rich Guillod drove in Keado with a single to left field to give the Vikings the lead.

In the third inning, Hudson Valley added three more runs on Jeremy Villano’s RBI double and Keado followed with an RBI single to take an 8-3 lead.

Herkimer scored two runs in the fourth and added two more in the sixth on Nate Sanzo’s two-run RBI single to cut the lead to 10-7. The Generals had the go-ahead run at the plate, but reliever Robert Piser (Troy, NY/Catholic Central) struck out Ambiorix Triunfel and got Ben Brady to ground out to second to end the inning.

In game two, Hudson Valley jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on Marc Peluso’s (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) two-run, two-out, RBI single. After retiring the first two batters, pitcher Matt Gonyea hit Casey Job (Troy, NY/Troy) and Mike DeGregory (Schuylerville, NY/ Schuylerville) singled to start the inning. After a balk, Peluso followed with a single to center field, scoring both Job and DeGregory.

In the fourth inning, the Generals capitalized on two errors to tie the game at 2-2. But Hudson Valley rallied with a run on two hits in the bottom of the fourth to regain the lead. With two outs, DeGregory hit a double down the left field line and Peluso drove him in with a triple to center.

The Vikings put the game put the game out of reach in the sixth with six runs on five hits to take a commanding 9-2 lead. Max Keado and John Barna each had RBI single and Rich Guillod drove in two with a double.

Marc Peluso went 2-for-3 with 3 RBI and Casey Job went 2-foe-3 with 2 RBI while Rich Guillod went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.

Hudson Valley pitcher Brien Sheridan (Poestenkill, NY/Averill Park) pitched his third complete game of the season, allowing seven hits and two unearned runs while striking out three to improve to 4-0.

The Vikings return to action tomorrow when they host Jefferson Community College in the regular season finale at 2 p.m. at Joe Bruno Stadium.
