COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course is required for all first time, full-time students. Through a series of presentations jointly developed by the academic department and student services professionals, students will be provided with information on career and transfer opportunities, academic procedures, campus regulations, and student rights and responsibilities. Through a series of activities and assignments students will learn to identify problems and take the initiative in solving the problems. The requirement may be waived by the Department Chair. This course my not be transferable. NOTE: For student scheduling purposes, this course is identified with a separate course number for each school in which it is offered.
   

STUDENT OBJECTIVES:

 

1. To acquire information about institutional services available to assist in pursuing a degree.

2. To acquire the skills necessary to be successful in academic pursuits.

3. To acquire strategies for gathering and analyzing information, solving problems and developing habits of critical thinking.

4. To acquire curriculum specific information required for planning and making informed decisions.

5. To achieve connections with other students in the college community.

   
ACTIVITIES/ ASSIGNMENTS:

Consult weekly semester outline to anticipate and be prepared for the topic to be covered. If you miss a class you are expected to contact the instructor prior to the next class meeting.

Late assignments will only be accepted up to one week after the published due date.            

Grading is based on the completion and quality of assignments and class attendance. You are expected to attend every class ON TIME. If you arrive late it is your responsibility to speak to the instructor to receive credit.

   
GRADE COMPUTATION:

“S  Satisfactory ³ 60 points OR “F”  Fail < 60 points
Points earned: 

7 for each completed assignment (10 total) =   70 points

2 for each class attended (15 total)                = +30 points                                                                                     100 points        

“I”, “Z”, “W” grading criteria will be discussed in class, or consult Catalog. A failing grade in this course will negatively affect your grade point average and eligibility for the Dean’s or President’s List. Do not let this happen to you!
