Apply for Service Learning

Students looking to participate in Service Learning should follow these steps:
  1. Meet with your instructor and investigate the service learning options for your class. You must choose a site that is one of our Community Partners. View our Community Partners/Sites
NOTE: Your instructor may want you to be at specific sites.
  2. Schedule a meeting with the desired community site coordinator. Before attending the meeting, complete the application below. Once you complete the application, you will receive a confirmation email and should bring a copy of it with you to the meeting for the coordinator to sign.
  3. Submit your application that was signed by the site coordinator as instructed in the confirmation email. Paperwork must be submitted prior to the end of the sixth week of the semester. The sooner you turn it in the better.
  4. Print out the Community Service Log to track your hours of service, have your supervisor sign it at the end of your service and submit the completed log before or at the end of the semester.
NOTE: The recommended hours of service (typically 15 – 20 hours) must be completed prior to the last week of the semester.

Reminder to Students
You are representing yourself as well as the college when you perform your service. You will be judged on your performance, your willingness to learn and /or change, ability to receive criticism, general attitude, and eagerness to perform the service. The service agencies and the Service Learning Office expect students to act responsibly, as representatives of Hudson Valley Community College, by showing up for scheduled service times, behaving in a professional manner, asking questions when there is an unfamiliar task or situation, receiving criticism with a positive attitude, following the policies and procedures of the agency and Hudson Valley Community College, and obeying the laws of New York State.
