Delanson Resident Named New Department Chairperson at Hudson Valley Community College

\"ImageKaren A. Holmes, Esq. of Delanson has been named department chairperson for the Business Administration department at Hudson Valley Community College. Holmes, who previously served as Coordinator of Instructional Services at the Capital District Educational Opportunity Center, assumed her new post on August 20.

In her new position, Holmes will supervise the college's Business Administration and Accounting programs. She will oversee faculty, curriculum and program development and advisement for students in the Business Administration department.

Holmes has been employed at the Educational Opportunity Center, a division of the community college, since 1998. Previously, she had served as a professor, department chairperson, director of student relations and dean of academics at Mildred Elley School in Albany. She also was a business professor at Maria College.

Holmes received her bachelor's degree in psychology from UAlbany, and her law degree from the University at Georgia School of Law. She currently serves as chairperson of the Capital District Adult Education Professional Development Consortium.

"Karen brings to this position a wealth of experience in the teaching of business principles as well as a strong administrative background. We are pleased to have someone with her experience and enthusiasm taking this important position," said Hudson Valley Community College President John Buono.

"I am very excited to begin working with the faculty and staff at Hudson Valley Community College," said Holmes. "I've already met with many of the faculty members. We have a wonderful group in the college's Business Division."

Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 50 degree and certification programs in four academic divisions: Liberal Arts and Sciences; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences; and Business; as well as programs run through the Educational Opportunity Center offering certification programs in workforce and academic preparation.
